History

(c) Alex BrennerLibrarian Theatre was established by Joint Artistic Directors & Producers Kelly Eva-May and Tom Cuthbertson.

Both freelance performers, Kelly and Tom met touring children’s shows in Germany for six months in 2015. Alone on the Autobahn, there a lot of time for contemplation and imagination. One day the seed of an idea was planted: touring theatre to libraries.

The concept seemed so simple that it was a surprise to discover very little of the kind already happening in the UK. Approaching librarians with the idea, the enthusiasm and excitement it generated made it clear this was a cause worthy of dedication.

Working towards our debut production of “The Book’s the Thing”, in October 2015 we managed to successfully raise £6,208 of seed-funding through a Kickstarter Campaign, with the generous support of 104 backers.

Librarian Theatre was officially incorporated as a Not-For-Profit Company Limited by Guarantee in January 2016. In our first year we completed two Arts Council funded tours, reaching almost 2000 audience members across 16 library authorities. Find out more about the shows under Past Projects.
